To-days Health - Good Health and Health Problems

What are some of to-days most common health problems? To a large degree that may depend on several items:
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Racial background
  • Family history
There are probably several others, but we will try to deal with some of the ones that are in the forefront. How does age play a part in your health. Children: For the most part children are basically pretty healthily.
  • Chickenpox
  • Mumps
  • Measles
  • Whooping cough
  • Fifth disease, (erythema infectiosum)
  • Roseola, (3 day fever)
  • Hand, foot and mouth disease
  • Scarlet fever
  • And a few others
Teenagers and young adults: A great many of health problems in the teens and young adults are a result of:
  • Car accidents
  • Physical injuries, (sports and violence)
  • Homicides
  • Suicides
  • Substance abuse
  • STD's (sexually transmitted diseases)
  • HIV
  • And again other health problems
Mid-aged and older aged adults begin having some health problems that in many cases are a result of their teen and young adult lifestyle.
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol
  • Drugs
  • Old injuries from MVA, and sports
This is also about the time that many have slowed or stopped doing exercise. They have failed to maintain a healthy diet. All of these things bring on the problems we find in old age. Such things as:
  • Hypertension
  • Heart Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Arthritis
  • Back problems
  • COPD, (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • Osteoporosis
  • Vision and Hearing loss
  • Stroke
  • Depression
  • Senility, (Alzheimer's Disease)
Gender: It was thought for many years that diseases such as heart disease and hypertension was mostly found in men. The thinking now is that many of these diseases were secondary to life style and a difference in habits. Now that women are moving up into the upper management areas of business. Along with more of them smoking and using drugs we have found that they are also developing increasing health problems that were once thought to be mainly in males. Women are now having a large increase in heart attach, hypertension, stroke, lung cancer and many others. Men have prostate cancer, women have breast, uterine and ovarian cancers, and as stated above both have cardiac and other diseases. What I have listed here is just the tip of the iceberg of the diseases that we deal with throughout our life time. Granted, they are finding new cures and methods of controlling diseases everyday, but we as individuals must try to help by taking care of our self and our children. When we are young, we are bulletproof. We know that knowing can hurt us, that we will never develop a debilitating disease. That we will always have our good health. Now we know better!
