Acne?

Is that a zit on your forehead?

Man, you'd better do something about that before it, like spreads... Uh, too late.

Before you know it there are dozens of blackheads and whiteheads ruling your cheeks, forehead, and nose.

What in the world happened? I'll tell you what happened; puberty hit.

First and probably the foremost reason for pimple development is the overproduction of sebum, sebum tends to clogs the pilosebaceous canal, (hair and oil canal).

Sebum production is affected by male hormones called androgens. These and other hormones tend to be very erratic especially in the teen-age years when hormone production is just starting.

With any fluctuation in hormonal balance or stimulation of male hormones due to various reasons always leads to pimples. And it hits you.. right in the face so to speak.

Yes indeed folks, those troublesome teen years can sneak up on us quickly, and we all know what that means. ZITS!

But hold on a moment, just because you are out or just about out of the teen years doesn't mean you are completely free...there is another form of acne called "adult acne". But I'll leave that for another time.

You'd better believe that you're probably going to grapple with some serious battles involving pimples. It's practically inevitable.

Some acne can be so severe, it can result in scarring.

This can be devastating to a teen ager. It can lead to low self-esteem and even some major depression.

The majority of our species is afflicted with this skin dilemma and it all begins when we're teenagers.

Sound like a blast? Well, if you're not there yet, trust me it's not.

In fact, it pays to be prepared for the occasion. What are you going to fight those blemishes with?

What do you know and understand about acne or pimples?

Do you know where they derive from? Well, it all starts with your pores. Each of us have like 20,000 of them on our faces.

Now, this is the bad part. Sometimes our delicate pores get blocked by dirt, oil, and debris such as dead skin. This results in acne or pimples.

People just do not keep their face as clean as need be.

Sometimes the transition from pre-teen to teen is a problem.

As a pre-teen many do not develop the habit of cleansing their face as often as they should.

Couple that with the fact that erratic hormone production causes an increase in sebum production and the pores are easily blocked.

When the pores become blocked with dirt and oil, and... bacteria. The bacteria begin to grow causing an irritation and inflammation.

When this happens many people want to squeeze on them, trying to express the material that gets trapped in the pore.

And... as many times as not squeezing on them makes the problem worse.

So then you're stuck trying to get those bumps to go away.

In general they have about a one week cycle, but of course this can be speeded up with the assistance of a quality medication.

Or the course may be extended by squeezing, and thus causing irritation and or infection.

However, the best route in dealing with acne or pimples is always prevention.

Prevention, prevention, prevention! This can not be reiterated enough.

It's all about how you take care of your precious mug. You must treat it like it's the only face you'll ever have. Oh wait, it is!
